Luanda Moving
3'19'' / 2011-12

Luanda's topography has been changing since records began. The mutation of the island, bay and broader coastline are a result of constant negotiations between water and earth, a dialogue dependent upon natural and artificial phenomena. On the one hand, the city's surface area increases as a result of the displacement of sand by the ocean's currents and/or landfill processes introduced by technology. On the other hand, the so-called calemas (ocean storms) often bring about conquests of water over land, particularly on the island.
