The exhibition Aleixo: 5 Towers, 5 Decades celebrates the 50th anniversary of the residents’ association, bringing together archival documents and photographic works by André Cepeda, David Gonçalves, Leonel Castro, Nelson d’Aires, and Paulo Pimenta.
The exhibition proposes a visual and documentary journey through the history of Bairro do Aleixo - one of the most emblematic and controversial places in contemporary Porto. Between collective memory and urban transformation, it revisits the five towers demolished between 2011 and 2019, tracing a dialogue between historical records, testimonies, and artistic perspectives. By juxtaposing archival materials with contemporary creation, the exhibition challenges dominant narratives about social housing, marginalisation, and belonging, restoring to Aleixo the central role it played in five decades of community life.
