Since 2021, Paulo Moreira has served as Director of the Arquiteturas Film Festival – a platform dedicated to reflecting on and disseminating architecture and urban culture through film, installations, debates, workshops, and urban walks. Over the years, the festival has established itself as a critical space for rethinking the present through the intersections of cinema, architecture, and spatial practice. Held annually, it brings together filmmakers, architects, and researchers from around the world and is widely recognised as a forum for interdisciplinary exchange.
Throughout its history, the festival has collaborated with a range of distinguished guests and institutions, including Angola as guest country (2021), the Centre for Documentary Architecture (2022), the Canadian Centre for Architecture (2023), filmmakers Bêka & Lemoine (2024), and the Bordeaux-based centre arc en rêve (2025). These partnerships reinforce the festival’s role as a catalyst for international dialogue on architecture and the city, demonstrating how film can serve as a powerful medium for critical engagement with the complexities of urban life.
Recent editions of the Arquiteturas Film Festival organised by INSTITUTO under Paulo Moreira’s leadership include Bodies Out of Space (2021), Slow Down! (2022), Where Life Happens (2023), Learning to Unlearn (2024), At the Border (2025), and Urban Age (2026)
