Founded in 2018 by Paulo Moreira, INSTITUTO is an independent cultural centre located in the historic centre of Porto, dedicated to the intersections between architecture, visual arts, critical thinking, and contemporary urban culture.

INSTITUTO operates as a platform for experimentation, debate, and cultural production. Through exhibitions, talks, workshops, residencies, publications, and festivals, it creates formats that bring together practitioners, researchers, and diverse audiences, positioning architecture as a publicly engaged discipline.

With a consistent and internationally oriented programme, INSTITUTO has established a distinctive position within Porto’s cultural landscape. Its independent structure allows for curatorial freedom and inquiry into themes such as spatial justice, memory, ecology, and collaborative practice. Since 2021, INSTITUTO has also organised the Arquiteturas Film Festival, expanding the discussion on architecture and the city through cinema and a public programme presented across multiple venues in Porto.
